What do you need to perform on

We are happy to welcome you to our Oranum community. As a starter, let us introduce what you need to go online and stream on the site. Once you registered as a broadcaster all you need is a good quality web camera, a computer and an internet connection to start. However, for the perfect streaming quality, the right equipment is needed. The better grade camera, stronger computer and faster connection you have, the higher quality your stream will be.

Once you have the equipment, you will be able to go online via our own OranumCam streaming application and start your show right away. Our streaming application comes in two forms; the built in browser version and the higher quality standalone software.

Below you can see the technical requirements for both OranumCam - Standalone and OranumCam - Browser. With the minimum requirements you can run the software with a stable image quality, while with the recommended specifications you can stream at HD quality.

We strongly recommend using a desktop PC with ethernet cable connection, instead of a laptop (or notebook) for your work because of performance and heat issues (notebooks will often downgrade performance in order to prevent damaging due to heat), furthermore a desktop PC will most likely provide you a wider range of possibilities (e.g.: upgrading hardware).

Using MacBook Air is not recommended for online streaming as it's specifications do not meet the site's requirements and has no proper Ethernet cable port available, which would be needed for a stable internet connection.

To help make your streaming quality even better please check out our Technical Troubleshoot pages.

Minimum Required Specifications

    • Windows 8.1,  Windows 10,  Mac OS X 10.15 or above. All with latest and all updates installed.

Recommended Specifications

  • These specifications are strongly recommended for streaming on our site with the standalone OranumCam. With these conditions the computer will use hardware encoding, which will lead to a better performance.

    • Operating System: Windows 10 64 bit, Mac OS X 10.15 or above. All with latest and all updates installed.

        • You may find the list of QuickSync processors here.
        • The integrated graphics card (GPU) should always be under power. Plugging your screen's cable into the motherboard GPU will ensure this.
        • Latest Intel Graphics driver must be installed.
      • Video Card: In case you wish to stream using a dedicated video card you may use an Nvida card that has NVENC video encoding available. For these, you will not necessarily need to have an Intel processor.
